Character Biographies

Biographies for each character.

Barney Daniels
Barney is a 65 year old widowed coal miner with one daughter, Coleen. He’s an honest man but with his fair share of problems. After his wife’s death, he’s been in the local speakeasy or working hard at the coal mine so that he can help Coleen reach her dreams of becoming a singer.

Coleen Daniels
Coleen has always dreamed of becoming a successful singer. After years of being a secretary, a chance to sing at a speakeasy seems tempting.

Carnell ‘Ivory’ Taylor Jr.
No one has cared enough to learn his real name; to them he’s just the black piano player, which is where he earned the name Ivory. His real age is unknown, even to himself. Barney is the only person he’s got in this world close to a friend.

Robert Freidman
After WWI, Robert struggled to find a job. However with the skills he has and his greed for money, he soon found himself working for Al Capone. Eventually he ended up running a speakeasy now known as Robbie’s Club.

Frances Ripley
She’s Robert’s wife but she doesn’t act like it. In a world of men, Frances stands on her own two feet, as long as she’s got some poor sap to do her bidding. She knows talent when she sees it, which is why she’s in charge of the club’s entertainment.

Lily Sawyer
Lily’s a young woman with bad habits, she drinks, she smokes and she knows how to have a good time. When given a chance to sing for the club, she snaps it up.

Amelia Brown
Amelia is naïve and hopeful. She often lets others get their way and avoids conflict at all costs. She wouldn’t normally get involved with a place like Robbie’s Club but it’s the best place in Phoenix to start a singing career.

Dorothy Black
The second reason people go to Robbie’s Club is Dorothy Black. However new talent threatens her long career there.
